St. Joseph’s Villa, located in Henrico County, works with children with special needs as well as their families in an effort to help them be as successful as possible in life. A multi-phased, large scale project was planned in order to make the current 82-acre campus a “more therapeutic learning environment.” Louis Smith Construction worked alongside J. E. Liesfeld contractor and Kjellstrom & Lee Construction on a new roadway which encircles much of the campus, as well as the key component of this project, a “Pedestrian Avenue.” The “Pedestrian Avenue” is meant to bring the various areas of the campus together while providing a “tranquil and therapeutic learning environment.” Louis Smith Construction worked extensively on the installation of over 10,500 syd of sidewalk, various ramps, and stairs that help make the campus fully accessible to those with special needs.
